  • (16+ if you can ball, check with YMCA about good days for pickup games)

For younger, occasionally the city and/or YMCA put on camps for training. Check the YMCA and city websites in the early fall for these sessions.

The schools typically have teams/tryouts in the fall for the school squads. Boys & Girls.

If you are 17 and under and can REALLY BALL, look into AAU basketball leagues. It’s the best of the best and how most athletes get scholarships to college.

  • Folks at the Mower County Senior Center occasionally play cards. You can check their Facebook page for days with official events, or just ping them about good days to come in and play with folks.

  • Playitforward Games downtown is the place to go if you want to learn how to play card games like Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, WarHammer, or other strategy-based card games.

PLUS, they have tons of board games and open board game night every Friday evening!

Great spot for pick-up games in almost any genre. PLUS, a great place for just hanging out and finding Dungeons & Dragons peeps to play with.

  • We have yet to find a place that hosts regular poker tourneys, BUT if a local spot wanted to put on a charity type of event we would help promote the heck out of it.

(to follow gambling laws the buy-in would have to go towards a charity, prizes would have to be donated by local businesses.)

    Ex.
($10 buy-in for all players, all funds go to x-nonprofit that week.)
    1st place - $250 gift card to Steve’s Pizza
2nd place - Free oil change & inspection at Asa Auto
3rd place - $15 visa card from Austin Taco John’s

Prizes and charity funds change every week. This is a fantastic way to help raise money for local nonprofits and the community.

The possibilities are endless. Heck you might even be able to offer cash prizes so long as it’s not tied to the buy-in and money goes towards the charity.
